My last post was 5 months ago, my how things have changed in my life since then! Over the summer I did some honest soul searching. My path toward a career in fashion wasn't making me happy and I couldn't help but continue to be drawn toward Humanitarian work. All I kept thinking was, "what makes me truly happy, what issues do I truly want to help fix?". My mind instantly went to Feminism and Gender Equality. Every. Single. Time. I could rattle on with statistics, true stories and the many facets of gender equality that need help, but I plan on addressing those issues in individual posts so they get the attention they deserve. You may be wondering, why did I change career paths? Why did I choose feminism? These are questions easily answered. To me, things like, education for girls, women's health awareness and the gender pay gap are issues I truly feel I can make a difference in, and they are issues I am extremely determined to help fix. I educate myself about the fight for equality as often as I can, but I realize there is still a lot I don't know. I am the kind of person that adores learning and I am eager to continue to learn more about a cause I care about so much. This is a testament to me of ones passion for something. When you desire and need to learn more about it.
I am a feminist because...
- Women deserve to be recognized for their strength BEFORE their physical attributes.
- Men should not be afraid to show emotions, crying is a beautiful thing.
- Women and Girls have the right to be educated as much as the boys, period.
- Women's health is not taken seriously enough
- Men and women shouldn't be told that they need to look a certain way in order to be considered of worth.
- Maternity leave and Paternity leave should be priorities, rearing children is a job for BOTH parents.
- Women don't have to wear makeup, and if men want to wear makeup they should be able to. Free of judgement.
- Being feminine isn't a weakness, whether you be male or female.
My list goes on an on, why are you a feminist? If you are unsure of your stance in this issue, as yourself one question, "Do I believe men and women should have equal rights and opportunities?" If your answer was yes, then congratulations, you are a feminist. If you answered no, you have some research to do my friend.
